The 49ners are for real?

After only 3 weeks into the season, the 49ners have not lost a single game. Why is this important you may ask? Well, the 49ners have been struggling every year since they lost in the Superbowl to the Baltimore Ravens. For the 2016-2017 season, the 49ners had a record of 2-14. 2017-2018 season the 49ners went 6-10. 2019-2020 seems like their goal is set to at least be in the positive for the win column as they are sitting with a clean record. However, who is to blame for this perfect record so far? Usually when it comes to winning, the quarterback is the leading factor to winning the games. However, Jimmy Garrapolo’s production has been sub par as he currently stands at 5 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. He isn’t very exciting nor does he really have a lot of unbelievable games as many people though he would after being Tom Brady’s Protege. Jimmy is pretty inconsistent as well and hasn’t really played against an elite defense so far, which would excuse the interceptions.

The defense for the 49ners has picked it up a notch to slow down opponents offenses, but injuries and a weaker schedule has assisted the defense with the appearance of being elite. So what could the 49ners be doing that is making them win more games unlike before? The always overlooked special teams unit has done a wonderful job for the 49ners. Robbie Gould is one of if not the best kicker in the NFL currently. He is deadly accurate and seems to be always trusted to kick the ball for 3 points anywhere on the field. So far as a kicker, Robbie Gould has more points than the starting 2 running backs on his team and Tight end combined. Robbie Gould seems like the MVP on the team in my opinion as he cleans up the mess that the offense creates at times.

So far, Robbie Gould has accumulated 28 points with his longest field goal being 47 yards away at a 75% field goal accuracy. Robbie Gould deserves for someone to wear his jersey in California because I really don’t see anyone on that team that deserves more attention than him. Jimmy got a huge contract, but hasn’t lived up to the money given to him. The running backs play hard, but the offensive line doesn’t get the push needed to make them look spectacular, George Kittle is a great tight end, but has jimmy throwing to him, and Marquise Goodwin might be as fast as Tyreek Hill in a straight line race, but again jimmy can’t seem to hit him more often. The way I see it, the 49ners were down for so long, there is only one way to go from here.

Tell me what you think about the 49ners success so far. You buying in?
